Dairy Free? Holy Cow!

Is it better to drink dairy free alternatives and cut down on dairy milk?

From a nutrition perspective, when you remove foods or food groups from your diet, you are also removing the opportunity to have the nutrients that are in that food/food group. So if you are removing milk, you will also be removing the opportunity to have some protein, calcium, b vitamins and iodine. Dairy free milks don’t naturally contain these nutrients which is why if you are choosing dairy free milks it is SO important to choose ones which have been fortified with these nutrients. You will be able to identify if a dairy free milk is fortified by looking on the nutrition table on the back of the packet and seeing if it states it contains these nutrients. Organic varieties will not be fortified.
